Darwinian Action

It's interesting that Best Buy is trading up 5% in a flat tape on a day that Circuit City announces that it is closing 155 stores this week and laying off 17% of its workforce.

It has to be very bad for a retailer to be shutting down within weeks of the peak holiday shopping season. It doesn't bode well for any troubled merchant that some Circuit City vendors are demanding payment in advance for inventory to be shipped. Signs of the times.
